Couple and pet dog injured as five-member group attacks them in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Madhuranagar police, who registered criminal cases against five persons for assaulting a couple in connection with a pet dog issue, detained them here on Thursday. The video in which the miscreants are seen assaulting the couple went viral on social media.

The five include Lachireddy Dhanunjaya, Bilan Sai Kumar, Bhagantri Praveen Kumar, Lachireddy Gowri Shanker and Srireddy Rambabu, all residents of Rehmathnagar in Yousufguda.

According to the FIR, Nimmaturi Madhu, head-customer care at Harsha Toyota, Kondapur, had lodged a complaint alleging that his brother N. Srinath and his wife N. Swapna, were assaulted by their neighbours on May 8. Six days later, Srinath and Swapna were again attacked by the miscreants with iron rods. Meanwhile, west zone DCP Vijaya Kumar confirmed that two persons and their dog were attacked by a group of persons in the Rahmath Nagar area under Madhura nagar limits on May 14. Srinath, his wife Swapna and their dog suffered grievous injuries and are undergoing treatment, he said.

The accused and the injured persons are neighbours and have been involved in altercations for the past few days over certain petty matters.

All the five involved in the assault were arrested and produced before the court. The have been remanded to judicial custody, Vijaya Kumar said.
