DCA seizes drugs from quacks, unlicensed shops

Hyderabad:The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted raids across the state and seized medicines from unlicensed medical shops and quacks. In Errapahad village, Noothanakal mandal, Suryapet district, officials found a shop operating illegally without a drug license and seized 30 types of medicines, including antibiotics and analgesics worth `22,000.

Samples were sent for analysis. In another raid at Deshmukhi village, Bhoodhan Pochampally mandal, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, the DCA officers seized 31 types of medicines, valued at`38,382, from the premises of a quack named Akula Gopinath.

In Khammam, officials uncovered counterfeit “Feromen XT tablets” (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid, Zinc tablets), falsely marketed as food products/nutraceuticals. In Kamareddy, overpriced Sofrabact Cream (Mupirocin Cream 2% w/w) was seized. The MRP on a 5gm tube was `155, significantly higher than the Central Government's ceiling price of `101.45, which including GST, totals to `113.6.

The DCA also seized Ayurvedic and Siddha medicines in Medchal- Malkajgiri and Mahabubnagar districts, which made misleading claims about treating high blood pressure, kidney stones, bladder stones and diabetes.

The seized products included NORMACT tablets (for high blood pressure), syrups Dava-Tone and URICAL (for kidney and bladder stones) and D-Co-D tablets (for diabetes).
