Nizamabad: Leaders of all major political parties are making efforts to contest as MLC from the Karimnagar Graduates constituency. Whether belonging to ruling Congress, BJP or BRS, they are seeking the party nomination to contest from the Karimnagar Graduates Legislative Council constituency.

This constituency encompasses the regions of undivided Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Medak districts. The current representative of this constituency is Congress senior leader T. Jeevan Reddy. His tenure will end on March 29, 2025.

Enrolment of graduates as voters from this constituency will begin in September 2024.

In the backdrop of Congress MLC Teenmar Mallanna alias Chintapandu Naveen Kumar recently winning the council seat as representative of Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts, the ruling Congress leadership is hoping to win the Karimnagar MLC seat too.

Congress sources reveal that sitting MLC Jeevan Reddy or former MLC R. Satyanarayana may be fielded from the Karimnagar Graduates’ seat. Incidentally, Satyanarayana joined Congress during the Lok Sabha elections, ending his two decades association with the BRS party.

From BJP, former MLC P. Sugunakar Rao, who lost the recent elections, and Rani Rudrama Devi are hopeful of getting the MLC ticket. Former MP B. Vinod Kumar, former MLC Naradas Laxman Rao, former mayor Ravinder Singh and Y. Shekhar are among those who are tipped to get the MLC ticket.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a Congress leader said not only wealth, good relations with the public will be a strong criteria for the candidate who will get the nomination from the ruling party. Compared to other graduates’ constituencies, Karimnagar is geographically vast. The candidate will have to be a noted figure across districts.

Government employees and teachers’ unions play a key role in Graduates’ MLC constituencies.
