Dirty Hostels Surface in GHMC Food Checks

Hyderabad: GHMC’s food safety inspections uncovered hygiene violations in hostels across Ashoknagar and RTC crossroads. The inspections were supervised by N. Surya, food safety designated officer.

At Venkateshwara executive PG hostel for women and girls in Ashoknagar, inspectors found greasy kitchen walls, rotten vegetables, expired food items, and the use of contaminated ingredients. Grace Deluxe Boys Hostel in Jawaharnagar was operating without an FSSAI licence, with poorly maintained kitchen facilities and substandard soya sauce.

Abhishrey Boys Hostel in Gandhinagar had stagnant water in the cleaning area, a rat-infested dining area, and contaminated water filters. Ashritha Women’s Hostel in Chikkadpally was using rotten tomatoes, had an expired food licence, and unsafe water.

Shradha’s Extended Stay in Musheerabad had a dirty kitchen with expired food items and an unhygienic refrigerator, while Balaji Darshan in Ashoknagar had similar issues, with high contamination levels in cooking oil.

Showcause notices have been issued to these establishments, with further action pending if violations are not corrected immediately.

In a separate inspection in Malakpet, the commissioner of food safety's task force found cockroach and rat infestations at Capital Multicuisine, alongside uncovered and unlabelled food in dirty refrigerators. Synthetic food colours were discovered in the biryani, which was discarded.

Al Saud Bait al Mandi was cited for lacking medical fitness certificates, pest control records, and proper food labelling, with significant hygiene lapses noted. Both establishments were found to have improper insect-proofing
