 Hyderabad: The mass promotion of 2263 employees at all levels in the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (SPDCL), which in some cases was pending by up to 17 years, has made the employees cherish the real benefits since the formation of Telangana state.

The mass promotions initiated by the Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka within 10 days of the issue coming to his notice and convincing the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of the need despite the financial constraints, has won accolades from the employees, who are asserting that the real goal of `Niyamakalu’, one of the key goal of the statehood agitation has been realised after 10 years of formation of the State.

The CMD of SPDCL Musharraf Ali Faruqui, who was instrumental in this promotion exercise, candidly admitted that the employees were in a desperate mood as their genuine issue was pending for a long time.

Talking to Deccan Chronicle, N Laxminarayana, who is in joyous mood after being promoted as superintending engineer, said that he has been the divisional engineer for the last 17 years. “It was normal to get regular promotions at the senior level. My case was completely different. I was promoted as ADE from AE within six years and then as DE in the next seven years. But, it took 17 years to become an SE. My promotion was delayed by the Telangana government,” says Laxminarayana, who works at the corporate office.

Mohan Reddy, the SE-turned-chief engineer, said “It is the dream of every professional to reach the top position. With 35 years of experience and failing to get the due promotion was quite painful. The credit for the happiest moment of my professional life t goes to our management.” Mohan Reddy is due to retire on August 31.

Sammaiah, who works in Nalgonda circle as senior lineman (operation and maintenance) has been promoted as foreman, after working for over 10 years. He said that like him, 22 more employees have been promoted in his area.

Yadagiri from Gadwal circle points out that he had only two promotions in his entire career. After joining as helper, he is today a lineman, thanks to the latest promotions.

Faruqui issued orders for the promotion of 101 personnel in engineering services, 47 in accounts, 2099 in operation and maintenance and 16 in P&G services.
