Drunk Driver Kills 7-Year-Old in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: An inebriated man crashed his speeding car into a motorbike at Ibrahimbagh under Golconda police limits, here on Saturday, killing a seven-year old boy on the spot and injuring his father.

The deceased was identified as Sourya, a resident of YSR Colony. His father Ramesh suffered injuries, but is out of danger.
"In the mishap, Sourya received a head injury and was unconscious while his father Ramesh suffered minor injuries. The car driver tried to escape. However, locals chased the car and detained the driver. One Srinivas was driving the vehicle and he was in an intoxicated condition," Golconda sub-inspector S. Venkateswar said.
The locals informed the police, who wen to the spot and shifted the boy to a hospital but doctors declared Sourya was dead.
"We have registered negligence in driving causing death and drunken driving cases against Srinivas. We also found liquor bottles in the car and have seized them," police said.
Sourya's body was sent for post-mortem examination, based on which action will be initiated against the driver.
In a similar case, a suspected drunk driver ran over a homeless man near Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. The accused had managed to flee the scene.
Police said the victim was crossing the road when the car hit him. Based on CCTV footage, police have swung into action.

January 6, 2023: Banjara Hills police arrested two persons Sai Vardhan and Pranav for causing the death of two persons in another drunken driving incident.

An extensive drunk driving crackdown started on August 2 led to the apprehension of 309 offenders in Cyberabad limits.

A total of 261 two-wheelers, 11 three-wheelers, 36 four-wheelers and 1 heavy vehicle driver were caught.

* Thirty three offenders were caught with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
