Hyderabad: BJP Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajendar said that the party was not against the cleaning of the Musi river to make it another Ganga but was opposed to the government’s plans to remove thousands of houses belonging to poor and middle-class families on the river banks. The eviction, he said, was inhuman and criminal.

Rajendar was speaking at a dharna held to extend support to the residents of Phanigiri Colony, Marutinagar and Chaitanyapuri colonies where hundreds of houses have been marked for demolition. Rajendar said the houses were constructed on what was once agricultural land which had been converted into layouts with due permission.

Stating the several colonies in Chaitanyapuri were not in the full tank level or buffer zone of the Musi, Rajendar alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was carrying out the demolitions through HYDRAA to divert the attention of the people from its failed poll promises.

BJP Legislature Party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy claimed that rich owners who got notices from the state government were managing to get stay orders from the courts, but the poor and middle class people were facing unprecedented trouble.
