Hyderabad: “It feels quite frustrating that even today women in the country are bearing the brunt of gender inequality, including me. The sadistic behaviour of top three of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), has been such that they threatened me with dire consequences at a recent meeting, in spite of the fact that I am the lone female voice. I am being victimized because I questioned the undemocratic functioning of the association,” said an exasperated Vanka Roma Singh, a former Indian cricketer.

Roma Singh is the wife of former India player Vanka Pratap and mother of the hugely-gifted state cricketer Pooja Singh.

In a tell-all interaction with Deccan Chronicle, she said she feared for her daughter’s career.

“Now that I have lodged a police complaint against HCA president Arshapally Jagan Mohan Rao, secretary R. Devaraj and treasurer C.J. Srinivas, they will go all out to ruin Pooja’s career. They have no respect for women,” she said in an emotion-choked tone.

“Jagan and others are not only keeping us in the dark but are adding salt to the wounds inflicted by them with their rude and abusive behaviour when I raised questions against the HCA administration,” Roma said.

Incidentally, an investigation by Deccan Chronicle revealed that the present body was neck-deep in corruption and illegalities. They are accused of several frauds, including tender and ticket manipulations, during the recent IPL matches. It has also made a mockery of the Supreme Court approved constitution.

“I request the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and DGP Ravi Gupta to provide me and my family security given the threat to our life and order a comprehensive probe into the excesses committed by the incumbent HCA body,” Roma Singh said.

“We have received an official complaint from Roma Singh. We will start investigations into her charges immediately and ensure the safety of Roma and her family members. We will see to it that justice is done to her,” a senior police officer said.
