Khammam: Around 800 sacks of cotton were completely gutted in a fire accident that occurred at the agricultural market in the district on Wednesday. The estimated value of the lost cotton is Rs 30 lakh.
Upon receiving information, officials and staff from the Marketing Department were alerted. Fire tenders were dispatched to the spot and managed to extinguish the fire. However, the cotton sacks were entirely destroyed. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire. The cotton sacks were stored in the market after being brought in by farmers.
Among the damaged goods, 800 cotton sacks belonged to one trader, while another 500 sacks belonged to a different trader. Market Committee Secretary P. Praveen Kumar stated that more details about the fire accident will be revealed on Thursday.
