Hyderabad: The All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE) Society is fully geared up to deal with any fire eventuality in its premises during the annual numaish that will start here on Friday. Traditionally set for a January 1 commencement, this year’s edition was deferred in view of the weeklong mourning for former prime minister Dr, Manmohan Singh.

As it attracts massive crowds, the society is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring safety of the shoppers, visitors, stall owners and other staff.

To cover the entire 3.05 km area of Numaish, which this year will have 2,200 stalls, security cover comes in the form of 22 certified quick reaction teams – QRT and 42 with 82 fire hydrants with 33 metres of flexible nozzle pipes each.

“Given that the society has its own fire safety and disaster prevention facilities by way of two water pumping stations holding a capacity of 1.50 lakh litres each, we can say that we have the capacity of 30 fire tenders, which is enough to serve the purpose, Aditya Margam, convener for the estates, told Deccan Chronicle.

“Earlier we used to allow stall owners and workers to cook in the premises. This time we have restricted them from doing so, alongside drugs, cigarettes, lighters and inflammable substances, which are all banned. Violators will be strictly dealt with,” he said. They have put in place the most advanced fire disaster unit that has been upgraded after the 2019 fire mishap, an officer said.

“Additionally we have diesel pumps as standby and a 150 PSU underground pipeline of 2.8 km,” Margam said.

Meanwhile, N. Vinay, convener for fire and disaster management of the exhibition society said “As per norms, we have coordinated with fire safety disaster management officials who have inspected our fire safety equipment. Firefighters will be deployed at two outposts, while our QRT teams and fire officials will function 24/7 and report to the main disaster management command control at the society.”
