First-of-its-kind Governor's Excellence Awards instituted
Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has instituted Governor’s excellence awards that will be given annually to individuals and institutions excelling in fields like environmental protection, welfare of divyangs, sports and culture.
The inaugural award ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of the ensuing Republic Day, it was announced here on Friday.
Applications can be submitted online and offline from Saturday till 5 pm on November 23. Online applications can be submitted at https://governor.telangana.
Applicants should demonstrate their work in the fields they apply for from 2019 onwards and also submit relevant supporting documents.
“The idea is to honour the unrecognized for their services to society. The jury will be headed by K. Padmanabhaiah. The role of the Raj Bhavan will be limited to accepting applications,” principal secretary to the Governor, Burra Venkatesham, said at a news conference on Friday.
The first-of-its-kind awards by the office of a Governor stemmed from Varma’s efforts to encourage individuals and institutions to contribute to public good. The Governor is keen to make the Raj Bhavan inclusive and egalitarian, Venkatesham said.
There are also plans to make the entire Raj Bhavan completely self-sufficient in all aspects, including recycling, make the entire office, residence and associated facilities fully green, a goal that is expected to be achieved in the next few months, he said.
