Hyderabad:Several residents and motorists pointed out that groups are gathering on flyovers and bridges at night to make reels for social media, drink alcohol and engage in stunts, posing a risk to themselves and others. Motorists driving through these areas late at night have expressed concern over the growing trend.

“It has become really risky to drive on these bridges during the night. I travel at night to my home and one day I saw a group of people drinking on Shaikpet bridge, it was terrifying,” said Prasad Reddy, a motorist who regularly uses the flyover. “Another time, multiple vehicles stopped on the bridge and were shooting reels in the middle of the road. They are putting not just their lives, but also ours at risk,” he lamented.

Motorists were also seen performing stunts on the Nayini Narasimha Reddy steel bridge. A Redditor uploaded a dashcam video on the Hyderabad subreddit, which showed two motorbikes performing stunts on the steel bridge in the night.

The Hyderabad Police have taken note of the issue and have warned that strict action would be taken against those found engaging in such unlawful activities. The police emphasised that the flyovers and bridges are meant for vehicular traffic, not for social gatherings or risky stunts.

“We have booked a case recently and arrested a group of people who were drinking and creating a nuisance on the steel bridge. Anyone found indulging in such activities will be dealt with severely under the law,” said Chikkadpally ACP L. Ramesh Kumar. “Flyovers are not places for entertainment or stunts. We are increasing surveillance and patrolling at night, and offenders will face fines or even legal action,” he noted.

He also appealed to the public to report such incidents immediately and asked the citizens to cooperate in keeping the roads safe for everyone. Authorities are planning additional patrols and surveillance on key flyovers, especially during the night, to deter such activities.
