Hyderabad: In a peculiar incident, police arrested 14 men who attempted to enter a chocolate factory owner’s home in Adibatla to steal Rs 950 crore of black money.

According to the police, the gang received a tip-off that the factory owner had kept the massive amount of “black money” in his house, and broke into the residence on June 10. A resident of the house alerted the police about a break-in, and the thieves escaped when they heard police sirens.

Police arrested 14 persons for the theft attempt, while one of them is still absconding. They said that black money theory at the victim’s home was not true, and they were desperate to make easy money. Police also retrieved material used to print fake currency, which the thieves wanted to plant in the victim’s house in an attempt to frame the factory owner.

CCTV footage showed the gang scaling the high compound wall surrounding the house, damaging the CCTV cameras, assaulted watchmen guarding the house and entering the building.

All the 14 persons were sent to judicial remand.
