GHMC Budget Estimates for 2025–26 Fiscal Put at Rs 8,440 Crore

Hyderabad: The GHMC’s Budget estimates for the 2025-26 fiscal stands at Rs 8,440 crore, projecting more revenues and lower capital expenditure. The Budget estimate is Rs 503 crore over the previous fiscal’s Rs 7,937 crore but

The proposals will be placed in Monday’s special meeting, which will be attended by members of the standing committee. It is likely to be approved.

The earlier Budget estimate was not approved by the standing committee with some members pointing to loopholes in the proposals, following which it was put on hold.

In the earlier estimates, against a revenue of Rs 4,205 crore, the capital expenditure was put at Rs 4,404 crore. In the new estimates, the expected revenue has been increased to Rs 4,445 crore, while capital expenditure has been brought down to Rs 3,995 crore.

The major revenue sources for the corporation are property tax and building permit fees. It is expecting that revenue generated through town planning user charges would be Rs 1,201.15 crore in addition to Rs 800 crore in state government grants.

“The highest revenue contribution will be property tax collection, which will exceed Rs 2,005 crore,” a GHMC official hoped.

Revenue through mutation fee (Rs 105 crore) and trade licence (Rs 112 crore) will also fill in GHMC coffers.

The major spending is proposed for infrastructure (Rs 1,237 crore), which includes construction of flyovers, underpasses, road under and overbridges as part of the state government’s ambitious Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Project (H-CITI).

Towards the development of roads and for the completion of Strategic Road Development Project works Rs 650 crore has been proposed.

Approximately, Rs 185 crore has been proposed for the maintenance of main roads under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP). Other proposals include a revamp of the stormwater drain to address urban flooding (Rs 200 crore) and conservation of the city heritage (Rs 168 crore).

The revised budget estimate for 2024-25 is at Rs 8,118 crore.
