Hyderabad:Amidst reports of over 100 students allegedly falling ill due to food poisoning at the Sri Chaitanya Akshara College, Madhapur, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued the institution a challan of Rs 2 lakh on Friday for absence of a silt chamber, lack of sanitation, fire safety and trade licence in the college kitchen.

Students reportedly became unwell after consuming food served at the college and were covertly treated at a private hospital to avoid drawing attention to the issue.

Additionally, a letter circulating on social media, written anonymously by a student, claimed, “Approximately 200 members are suffering from fever, body pains, and vomiting. The Dean has decided not to allow us to speak with our parents.”

The students further claimed they were unable to reach out to their parents and demanded sick leave due to their condition.

In the background of this, the GHMC challan was also issued on Friday following an inspection of the college mess.

Meanwhile, college officials could not be reached for comment, and Madhapur police officials stated that no official complaints have been filed as of yet.
