Hyderabad: In view of the increasing need for a comprehensive and integrated approach for effective traffic management and urban mobility, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to constitute a dedicated committee.

The panel will oversee five major tasks, including study of real-time traffic updates; on boarding system integrators for traffic management systems; traffic impact assessment; overseeing formulation of a parking policy and a Geographic Information System (GIS) based-road and asset management system. The committee will comprise three senior GHMC officials and two from HMDA.

As part of the study of real-time traffic updates, the committee will conduct a detailed assessment of real-time traffic management systems, explore integration of advanced technologies like sensors and IoT devices and data analytics for continuous traffic monitoring and management.

In a press release here on Wednesday, the corporation said that as part of onboarding of system integrators, the committee will facilitate selection and onboarding of qualified system integrators to design, implement, and maintain an efficient and scalable, traffic management System that addresses the traffic challenges.

Towards the 'traffic impact assessment', they will take up analysis of traffic influence associated with new developments or policy changes. “We will also develop a comprehensive parking policy that includes identifying parking hotspots, regulation of on-street and off-street parking and incorporating smart parking solutions to reduce congestion and improve urban mobility,” said a GHMC official.

To ease traffic in the city, the committee will also oversee the implementation of a GIS-based road and asset management, enabling real-time tracking, maintenance and optimization of road infrastructure and related assets.

The panel will also be responsible for end-to-end planning and selecting vendors by following a transparent tendering process.
