Hyderabad: Ambika Rani, a GHMC staffer and mother of a three-year-old, has won two national-level medals, a gold in grappling (wrestling) and a silver in judo. The National Grappling (Wrestling) competitions were held in November.

She has been selected for international competitions for these disciplines and will train at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) at Patiala. She trains with her father T. Harinath, a judo coach at the NIS.
Ambika Rani got the GHMC job as a compassionate appoint in place of her late husband eight months ago. Earlier working in the Engineering wing, she was posted in the sports wing on Monday.
She said that her commitment to win medals for the state and the country motivated her. “If there is a will to achieve something, it is possible. It is not easy to juggle between work, practice and taking care of my son. But my commitment made it possible,” Ambika Rani told Deccan Chronicle.
She said she wakes up at 4 am and goes for a one-hour swim after which she practices till 7 am. She hones her techniques for another hour before reporting for work.
“When I am at work, my mother takes care of son T. Anshit. Once I return from office, I take care of him. There is another two hour practice in the evening,” Ambika Rani said.
