Hyderabad: The GHMC said on Friday that it would be setting up 73 artificial ponds in different parts of the city for the immersion of Lord Ganesha idols. Among them are 27 artificial ponds, 24 portable ponds and 22 excavation ponds.

Only idols up to five feet in height can be immersed in them. While the portable ponds can be dismantled and re-used, the artificial ‘baby’ ponds are permanent structures near lakes. Excavation ponds dug in playgrounds will be closed after the festivities.

The corporation said it had distributed 3.1 lakh clay idols of Lord Ganesh so far.

Some of the portable ponds are located at Marredpally Playground; Hayatnagar MRO office; Shivalayam Ground at Riyasathnagar; Exhibition Ground at Nampally and PJR Stadium, Chandanagar.

The excavation ponds are at Chilkalguda municipal ground, HMT (beside ESI Hospital); Gopanpally road opposite Ranganayaka temple; Sanathnagar sports complex; SBH Colony, Saidabad; Huda Bharathinagar Park, Hasthinapuram.
