Golconda Bonalu starts today

The ‘Thotala’ ‘Parlaram bandi’ and ‘Bonam’, procession starts from Langar Houz and proceeds towards Golconda fort. Once the procession reaches the temple, Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Alayam, within the fort, the statue will be installed, where it will remain till the end of ‘Ashadam’

HYDERABAD: The city is geared up for a massive celebration to usher in the state festival that starts with the Golconda Bonalu here on Sunday. Incidentally, Golconda is the only place where the colourful festival is celebrated during the entire ‘Ashadam’ month.

The ‘Thotala’ ‘Parlaram bandi’ and ‘Bonam’, procession starts from Langar Houz and proceeds towards Golconda fort. Once the procession reaches the temple, Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Alayam, within the fort, the statue will be installed, where it will remain till the end of ‘Ashadam’.

The state government distributed cheques to temple committees on Saturday.

The festival calendar, coffee table book, posters and CDs of Bonalu-inspired songs were released by endowment minister Konda Surekha in the presence of transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar. They said that the state government had allocated an additional `20 crore towards the conduct of Ashada Masam Bonala Dasabdi Utsavalu

The ministers gave a brief about the run-up interactions with government officials and various committees to discuss arrangements for conducting the festival on a grand and safe note.
