Golf Pride Homes Stink as Water Board Links Sewage of 180 Flats to its Septic Tank

Hyderabad: Staff of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) have put the health of around 42 families living in Golf Pride Homes (GPH), Swaran Andhra Phase II Housing Society, Yapral, at risk by connecting sewage connections of nine apartment complexes to a septic tank, which was designed to serve only smaller number of families.

Though families have been staying at the Golf Pride Homes, a Huda-approved gated community, since 2007, the HMWS&SB has not connected their drain network to the Yapral drainage network. However, the situation turned worse in 2014 when the board, without authorisation, connected sewage from nine nearby apartments to this housing society’s septic tank.

The HMWS&SB’s action has led to sewage from around 180 flats in the nine apartments being discharged into the septic tank, causing it to overflow.

The residents of Golf Pride Homes complained of rancid smell, mosquito menace, and unhygienic conditions, threatening the health of its residents, who include several retired defence officials and senior citizens.

“Most of the people in our society are senior retired defence officers. Our health is at stake due to the apathy,” said Col. Rajneesh Nagpaul.

He also said that multiple attempts seeking a sewage outlet for the septic tank has failed. The society members since years have reached out to GHMC, HMWS&SB, corporators, MLA, MP multiple times but in vain. According to residents in Yapral, the quid pro arrangement of officials with builders has resulted in the apathy.
