Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday said that the state government had sanctioned Rs 4 crore to develop Kila Shapur, the native place of Sardar Sarvai Pappanna Goud, who had fought the Mughals and had defied the zamindari system.

Papanna, the eighteenth century hero, had built the famous Khilashapur Fort in his home village Sarvaipet and the fort's upkeep would be part of the development plan.

He was speaking at a programme organised to celebrate Papanna Goud's 374 birth anniversary at Ravindra Bharathi, under the auspices of the state BC welfare department.

Bhatti said Papanna Goud was born in a toddy tapper’s family. He fought against the then zamindar system in the country. He formed his own army and occupied Golconda fort. Every youngster must read the history of Papanna Goud and take inspiration from his valour, he said.

Meanwhile, the state government also officially celebrated the birth anniversary of Papanna Goud.

Speaking at an event in Karimnagar, Backward Classes welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar said Papanna's life story was important to inspire the future generations.

Papanna was remembered for resisting the Mughals and aiding the poor, he recalled.

Prabhakar said the development of Sarvaipet village will give it a much-needed economic boost.

He thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao for extending their cooperation in finalising the Savaipet tourism plan.
