Hyderabad: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar here on Monday said the State government was serious about the encroachments of lakes in the city, which is known as city of lakes.

He made it clear that the State government was not resorting to any repressive measures politically in the name of demolition of illegal structures in lakes Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone being carried out by the newly constituted Hydraa.

Speaking to media persons, he said it would be the responsibility of the locals to protect the lakes in the State and added that the people were appreciating the efforts of the State government to protect water bodies by clearing illegal structures.

The State government was getting overwhelming response from the people for its crackdown on illegal structures in the water bodies, the Minister said.

In case if any one feel that injustice was done to them, he or she can approach the court concerned. “It is the responsibility of the voluntary organizations to protect lakes and at the same time the locals should bring it to the notice of the police and revenue departments about the encroachments in lakes,” Prabhakar said.

Stating that the State government taking necessary to protect lakes in the city and later in the districts across the State, the Minister said the crackdown against encroachments would be carried out as per the records of the State. Those having the records of lakes and the areas where encroachments took place could be shared with officials concerned for necessary action. He called upon the people to voluntarily participate in the State government’s initiative to protect lakes from encroachments.
