Heavy rains lash Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the city on Monday afternoon prompting the people to take shelter beneath the Hyderabad Metro Rail flyover and trees.
Several families who were heading to their relatives' houses in connection with ‘Raksha Bhandhan’ in the afternoon got stuck in the rain forcing them to wait beneath the metro flyover. They proceeded only after the rain subsided after half an hour.
The worst affected areas were the low-lying areas in Secunderabad and Shaikpet, among other areas. At Shaikpet, the pedestrians were forced to wade through waist deep water as rain water accumulated on both sides of the central median.
The traffic police swing into action to lift a car, which got stranded on the main road after developing a snag, with a crane. At several areas, the traffic police with the help of municipal workers cleared the rain water from the main roads where water got logged.
Several vendors selling flowers, fruits and ‘rakhis’ were affected because of sudden rainfall. As it was a closed holiday for the schools and government institutions, the city roads did not witness major traffic chaos, bringing much needed relief to traffic police on duty at several busy routes.
