Heavy Rains to Lash Rayalaseema Region

Visakhapatnam: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh from Wednesday to August 17.

This weather pattern is being attributed to a trough from Rayalaseema to Comorin area, extending from south Telangana to a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining Kerala coast, reaching up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Isolated heavy rains are likely across Rayalaseema, with strong surface winds anticipated at speeds of 30–40 km/h. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in AP, particularly affecting the north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam areas.

Rayalaseema recorded the highest rainfall of 30 mm, followed by Tirupati 5 mm, Tuni with 2 mm and Anantapur 0.4 mm.

The maximum temperature of 38°C has been recorded at Kadappa, while the lowest is 29.9°C in Kalingapatnam.

AP has recorded 27 per cent excess rainfall between June 1 and August 13, compared to the normal.

According to IMD Amaravati, against the normal rainfall of 285 mm, the state has received 361.2 mm rainfall till August 13.
