Hindi Mahavidyalaya Students Protest Over Their Future
HYDERABAD: Around 300 students of Hindi Mahavidyalaya staged a protest at their college in Nallakunta on Monday, demanding clarity on their academic future after Osmania University revoked the institution’s autonomous status.
“We’ve already spent a year under autonomous status. Now they’re saying our certificates will be from OU. This will confuse employers when we apply for jobs. How can we explain this,” asked Sai Kumar, a protesting student.
Added to that, the change in status also brings modifications to the examination pattern, which has added to the students' concerns. “The college was autonomous for seven years. Now, with OU taking over, the syllabus and exam structure will change. This will leave us at a disadvantage, as we’ve been following a different system,” said Naveen, another protester.
The situation escalated when students tried to march to the Vice Chancellor’s office. Police intervened to prevent further unrest. Several protesters, including ABVP leader Praneeth, were briefly taken into preventive custody.
The college administration has remained largely silent on the issue. Meanwhile, Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram stated that adherence to academic regulations is non-negotiable.
