Hyderabad: A house owner and her tenant filed counter cases following a violent altercation over unpaid rent, leading to injuries to many. Attapur Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Jahangeer Bee rented out her home in Attapur to a tenant named Afroz after taking security deposit of Rs 5 lakh for a one-year period, according to the police complaint filed by Jahangeer Bee's daughter Amreen Begum, who is a housewife. The rent agreement was to expire on Tuesday.

Jahangeer returned Rs 4.50 lakh to Afroz and asked his family to vacate the home in 15 days. She said Rs 50,000 was cut from the deposit for repair works.

Afroz's mother-in-law, Ahmedi Begum, on Sunday refused to vacate the home. Jahangeer demanding the pending rent and electricity bills be paid, but the tenants declined. In retaliation, the complainant’s brother, Saber, cut the electric wires of the property.

In response, Ahmedi Begum’s children Mastan, Mohammed, Dastagiri, Bilal, Mohamooda Begum, Afsha, and Habeeba attacked the complainant’s family with stones. Several members of the owner's household were injured. One Nasreen Begum suffered a head injury and Jahangeer Bee was injured near her jaw.

In the counter-case, Afroz and his family have accused the Jahangeer Bee's relatives of provoking the attack by cutting off their electricity and demanding payment after an already agreed-upon settlement period.
