Hyderabad: A 65-year-old man succumbed to injuries after he fell into a lift duct from the fourth floor of his apartment in Ushodaya Colony under Asifnagar police station limits on Sunday.

The victim, M. S. Samiullah Baig, a resident of Flat 402, Waqas Square Apartments, opened the lift door to go to his apartment on the fourth floor when the lift started moving and he fell from the gap directly into the lift duct, Asifnagar police said.

His family members and other residents rushed him to a private hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The incident occurred at 4.30 pm, said Asifnagar inspector M. Venkateshwarlu. Samiullah, a retired private employee and a native of Vijayawada had come to the city eight months back and was staying with his family.

Police inspected the scene and suspect that a technical snag in the lift might have been the reason for the lift to automatically move while the victim was stepping out.

A case of death under suspicious circumstances has been registered and the victim's body has been shifted to OGH hospital mortuary for postmortem.
