Hyderabad: On Diwali night, a man left his home after a heated argument at his house, only to face a bizarre twist of fate when the steering of his Porsche allegedly locked while he was at thewheel. The car crashed into the compound wall of KBR Park. He fled from the spot after taking the vehicle number plate. Banjara Hills police later identified the accused and detained him.

Banjara Hills police received a Dial 100 call at 4.40 am on Friday regarding the car crash. When the teams reached the spot near Gate 9 of KBR Park, the electric Porsche Taycan 4s was found to have rammed into the KBR Park compound wall.

The car’s airbags had deflated, the right front section damaged and the tyre was worn out.

Though the police initially suspected it to be a case of drunk driving, they caught the accused, Utsav, 31, with the help of technical investigation. Utsav, a resident of Banjara Hills, was running a plastic recycling plant, police said.

According to the police, “Utsav was on the road since 12 midnight after he had a fight at his house. The accident took place prior to the Nymisha circle where tried to take a U-turn. His steering wheel locked suddenly due to a technical issue causing the car to ram into the wall and damaging public property.”

The police said that the accused was a teetotaler. His motive behind walking away with the number plate is yet to be ascertained. The police will seek a report from the motor vehicle inspector if his claim pertaining to the technical issue was true.

A case was registered under rash and negligent driving, endangering human lives and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act along with the Motor Vehicle Act.
