Hyderabad: The GHMC and the Telangana Waqf Board carried out a joint demolition drive on Wednesday to remove encroachments near Anmol Hotel in Edi Bazaar. The encroached land, belonging to a graveyard under the Waqf board, had been illegally occupied with sheds constructed and businesses being run on the property.

The Waqf board had earlier written to the GHMC requesting machinery and manpower to carry out the demolition. Acting on this request, Waqf board officials, along with GHMC personnel and police took action and demolished the unauthorised structures.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, one of the business operators affected by the demolition stated that six shop shutters were demolished. He claimed that the shops were not illegal and asserted that they were paying rent to the Waqf board.
