Hyderabad: Illegal Posters Deface City Walls
Hyderabad: Despite a strict ban by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on unauthorised posters and wall writings, cinema posters continue to deface the city's public spaces, indicating lax enforcement. Officials acknowledge the issue but cite ongoing census activities as the primary reason for the inaction.
“The entire GHMC team, including the deputy commissioner, is fully absorbed in the BC census,” a GHMC official said, adding, “Other activities can only be addressed after this massive census task is complete.” The census, requiring detailed household-level data collection, is reportedly consuming nearly all available resources, leaving other civic enforcement efforts, such as the removal of illegal posters, neglected.
Even scheduled meetings on poster enforcement with political representatives and the cinema industry have been postponed indefinitely. “We can only expect an update on this issue after November 20,” a GHMC official stated, describing the situation as a large-scale operation “bigger than elections,” with all other city maintenance and cleanliness priorities on hold.
