Hyderabad Initiates Measures to Mitigate Rainwater Stagnation and Traffic Jams

HYDERABAD: Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari said three tanks were being constructed in the city to store rainwater in the city.

At a review meeting, she said 134 spots in the city had been identified as being vulnerable to traffic jams and asked civic officials to take measures to prevent water stagnation at those places. A committee comprising civic, police and power officials will inspect these points and make appropriate suggestions to prevent waterlogging.

DGP Ravi Gupta, MA&UD principal secretary Dana Kishore, GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose and senior officials attended the meeting, held on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to prevent water stagnation.

She advised officials to send the weather forecast to the officials concerned and to WhatsApp groups of civil societies and inform them about the precautions to be taken.

She suggested further strengthening of the GHMC’s Disaster Response Forece and deployment of cranes to remove vehicles when breakdowns are reported on congested roads.
MA&UD principal secretary Dana Kishore said that 630 monsoon support teams had been made available to resolve rain-related complaints.
