Hyderabad: The east zone women’s police on Monday arrested Manda Venkata Kamesh, 30, of West Godavari district from Andhra Pradesh for cheating many women to fund his gambling habit. He faces several cases across Hyderabad and Cyberabad and had a non-bailable warrant (NBW) pending against him at the Nampally city court, police said.
Kamesh would prey on the women using matrimonial applications. In a recent case, he manipulated a girl into marriage by claiming that he was an IIT graduate and earned Rs 40 lakh a year. After eloping to Goa and marrying her, he extorted money from her.
Police said Kamesh frequently changed his phone numbers to avoid detection. Police said Kamesh’s victims were hesitant to file complaints to avoid revealing their identity.
