Hyderabad: The city police arrested two persons on charges of possessing unaccounted gold and diamond ornaments and silver articles worth Rs.2 crore.

The arrested have been identified as Bajjuri Purnachander, 49, a businessman and a resident of Mettuguda and Syed Baba Shareef, 25, a driver and native of Warangal. Gold and diamond jewellery weighing 2.5 kgs, one kg silver ornaments, a car and three mobile phones, all worth over Rs.2 crore were recovered from them, according to S. Rashmi Perumal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force.

Following a tip-off, the Task Force police intercepted the car while carrying unaccounted gold ornaments and silver items in two boxes in a Honda WR-V car near Aparna Oosmans Everest Apartments in Mettuguda.

Upon inquiry, both Purnachander and Shareef failed to produce any valid documents for carrying a large quantity of gold ornaments. Consequently, all the ornaments were seized and handed over to the Income Tax Department for further action.
