Hyderabad: Ramming Car Injures 3, Dozens Manage to Escape

Hyderabad: Dozens of people had a miraculous escape after a drunk car driver rammed his vehicle into a group of people standing on the pavement in front of a tea kiosk and a pani puri stall in Nampally at about midnight on Wednesday, police said. One person sustained multiple fractures and three others suffered minor injuries.

The accused, Abid Ali Malik was heading towards a hotel to have biryani. Said to be a cancer patient, he had a blood alcohol content of 200 micrograms per millilitre, against the norm of 30, police said after subjecting him to a breathalyzer test. Locals beat up Malik before handing him over to the police.

Mohammed Mohiuddin, 32, who was having tea on the roadside, suffered fractures to his hands and his ribs, Nampally inspector M. Appala Naidu said. After hitting Mohiuddin, Malik attempted to flee and ran into others.

After the locals informed the police, they rushed to the scene and rescued Malik. “Mohiuddin, who is undergoing treatment in a private hospital, lodged a complaint. We registered a case of attempt to murder and rash and negligent driving endangering human life under the BNS against Malik and seized his vehicle,” the inspector said.

The accused has been produced before the magistrate for judicial remand on Thursday.
