Hyderabad roads wear deserted look as people flock hometown for Sankranti
Hyderabad: With a large number of people going to their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Sankranti with their family and friends, several busy areas in twin cities wore a deserted look since Sunday with no vehicular movement, bringing much needed relief to the traffic police.
Be it the every-busy Panjagutta crossroads, Rasoolpura, IS Sadan in Malakpet or Madhapur, Kondapur and Kukatpally, these areas usually witness massive vehicular movement and some of the areas face chaos even on Sunday and other public holidays.
However, since Sunday afternoon, most busy roads in the twin cities and those in the IT corridor in Madhapur were seen empty paving the way for the on duty traffic police to take rest beneath a tree or nearby flyover. One of the major reliefs got for the residents staying in Secunderabad was less vehicles movement on the two main flyovers starting from North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police office near YMCA till Rasoolpura crossroads.
On normal days, the flyover witnesses traffic gridlocks from 8.30 am till 9 pm but for the last three days it did not face any problem. Similar is the situation with the flyover at Madhapur near Hi-Tec City and Malakpet. As it was a long weekend for those working in IT and other companies, thousands of people left for their hometown in Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Sankranti on a grand note.
Madhapur Traffic Sub-Inspector B Rambabu said that the Cyber Towers, IKEA road, Hi-Tech City, COD junction near Durgam Cheruvu and Madhapur were the main bottlenecks for traffic chaos during normal days. “These roads are now wearing a deserted look since Sunday and the same would continue till January 19,” he explained.
A few netizens also posted videos of less traffic in Hyderabad on their twitter accounts. One person posted a video saying, “#Hyderabad roads today. Less traffic and no chaos! Now it is the time to visit areas you didn’t see yet in Hyderabad.”
