HYDERABAD: In the wake of rising incidence of dengue and viral fever cases in the twin cities, government and private schools went into a cautionary mode and asked parents to take additional care of their children if they develop high fever coupled with cold and cough.

Attendance in several schools has dipped by 20 per cent due to increasing fever cases among students. Principals requested the parents not to send their children to school if they were suffering from fever.

A couple of days ago, a reputed school in Secunderabad sent an email to all parents highlighting the importance of the child’s health. “As part of our unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our students, we urge you to take immediate action if your child exhibits any of the symptoms of illness. Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell,” the management said.

It further stated, “By keeping your child at home when they are unwell, you are playing a vital role in safeguarding the health of other students. Let’s work together to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all.” It also forwarded three slides highlighting precautionary measures to be taken for viral infection, dengue, chikungunya fevers and hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

Hyderabad district education officer R. Rohini told Deccan Chronicle on Friday that the principals of government schools were taking precautionary measures for the safety of the students. “We are mainly focusing on clearing rainwater at the stagnation points on the school premises to control mosquito menace. As the fever cases are rising among students, the attendance in government schools registered a dip of over 20 per cent in the last 10 days,” she added.
