Hyderabad: Citizens now have a new toll-free number to report complaints about gender determination tests in hospitals and ultrasound scanning centres. All ultrasound scanning centres in Hyderabad district have been

directed to display a flex banner highlighting the toll-free number 1800-599-3366. Complaints regarding illegal practices can be made via the toll-free number between 10.30am and 5pm, from Monday to Saturday.

Around 78 ultrasound scanning centres were approved for registration and renewal on Wednesday. To

strengthen the enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, the district collectorate will hold inspections and hospitals will be monitored using a detailed checklist. Show-cause notices will be issued to those failing to meet the prescribed standards. Special teams will inspect and monitor scanning centres in December. These inspections will include a 100-point grading system and legal action will be taken against illegal centres.

The district administration is also focusing on sensitising the younger generation about gender equality. Awareness programmes addressing gender discrimination and equality will be conducted in government junior and degree colleges as part of their curriculum until March 2025. Additionally, gynaecologists and radiologists will receive specialised training on the PC & PNDT Act.
