Hyderabad: Woman Dies After Eating Momos, 6 Arrested
Hyderabad: Six persons associated with a food stall were arrested on Friday for the death of a woman, Reshma Begum, last week after eating momos.
Police identified the accused as Alma, Hussain, Raees, Sharukh, Haneef and Rajik, who ran the outlet named Delhi Hot Momos. Police also detained another person who also fell sick after eating momos from the stall.
All natives of Bihar who moved to the city six months ago and set up stalls, one each at Tank Bund, Singadibasti in Banjara Hills, which served the suspect momos, and Nandinagar.
The accused claimed that they were clueless what went wrong and the batch that was prepared on October 25 was similar to every other day.
The six accused were residents of Chintalbasti and had rented a room for preparing momos. Police found the room stocked with chicken, carrot, soya granules, onions, chicken masala, tasting salt, dalda and other items. The GHMC seized eggs and maida to ascertain whether the items were contaminated or expired.
A case was initially registered with Banjara Hills police on October 27 where the complainant stated that his daughter along with other kids and an acquaintance fell sick after eating momos from the stall. Another case was registered with the police after the death of Reshma Begum.
The police exhumed Reshma Begum’s body on October 29 and a team of doctors conducted postmortem at the graveyard and collected samples which were sent to lab in Osmania General Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
Post-mortem reports and those on the food items seized from the stall are awaited.
Police have recorded the statements of 32 persons who suffered vomiting, loose motions or any sickness after consuming momos and said they were continuing investigations.
