Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Monday demolished three sheds which had a gym and tennis court. The sheds were located in a 2,000-square yard area marked for open space in the layout at Kavuri hills, Madhapur.

While the demolition was underway, the HYDRRA reinstalled an old board saying: ‘GHMC Park Number 1 Kavuri Hills’.

HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganth said that the demolitions were executed on court directions. The Kavuri Hills Residents Welfare Association had approached the Telangana High Court which had ordered the removal of encroachments.

The sheds that razed were under the control of a person who was running a sports academy there. As per nomrs, any open space marked in the layout belongs to the GHMC.

“The space was handed over to the sports academy and it was operating for over 20 years,” said a resident of Kavuri Hills. While the demolition started, personnel from the sports academy objected but police stepped in.
