Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a gradual rise in minimum temperatures across Hyderabad and Telangana, bringing slight relief from the prevailing winter chill. From a low of 13°C expected on December 18, night-time temperatures are likely to climb steadily to around 19°C by December 23, marking a noticeable improvement after days of cold conditions.

At present, several districts in Telangana, including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Nirmal, and Mancherial, are under the grip of cold wave-like conditions, with temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C in isolated areas.

The IMD has issued advisories, urging residents, especially in these colder districts, to take precautions during early mornings and late evenings. While Hyderabad has been relatively warmer compared to northern districts, its night-time temperatures hovered between 14°C and 16°C in recent days, leading to a perceptible chill during the late hours and early mornings.

The forecast for Hyderabad indicates a steady warming trend, as northerly winds currently influencing the state are expected to ease in intensity. The winds, which are typical of December, have brought sharp drops in temperatures across the region. However, as cloud cover increases and weather systems stabilise, the minimum temperatures are set to improve.

Daytime weather in Hyderabad will continue to remain pleasant, with maximum temperatures expected to hold steady between 30°C and 31°C throughout the week, IMD said.

In the districts experiencing severe dips, residents have reported restricting outdoor activities during cooler hours, particularly impacting farmers and those engaged in early morning work. Health officials advised the elderly, children, and those with chronic conditions to remain indoors and avoid sudden exposure to cold winds. In urban centres like Hyderabad, where the chill has been milder, early morning routines have slowed, with the seasonal drop in temperatures making its mark on daily life.

According to meteorologists, the likely rise in minimum temperatures is part of the natural seasonal cycle, where early December often sees sharp cold spells, followed by milder conditions towards the year’s end.

For Hyderabad, the expected improvement from mid-December onwards will bring comfort to residents after the recent bout of colder nights. The IMD anticipates that by December 23, the minimum temperature will settle closer to 19°C, a significant rise from the current lows.

While caution is still being urged in the colder districts, the overall outlook for the state points to easing weather conditions over the next few days. For Hyderabadis, the slight warming will ensure more comfortable nights and early mornings, bringing a sense of seasonal relief as the city heads into the holiday season.
