Hyderabad: Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGNPDCL) has taken significant steps towards modernization, by launching unmanned substations.

TGNPDCL CMD Karnati Varun Reddy has announced that the first two unmanned substations have been inaugurated in Nakkalagutta Substation in Hanamkonda and another one in AJ Mills Sub-Station in Warangal. These substations will begin providing unmanned services from today onwards.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the TGNPDCL was planning to convert approximately 20 substations into unmanned operations by September 30 in Hanamkonda and Warangal Circles. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, these substations will be monitored and controlled entirely from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) center from the corporate office in Hanamkonda.

If any technical issues, such as tripping happen, the SCADA system will immediately alert the technical team, enabling them to respond quickly and minimize the interruptions time.

Reddy further emphasized these unmanned substations would significantly reduce human error and enhance safety. Real-time monitoring will provide accurate data, allowing for quick corrections when needed. In case of any breakdown, the SCADA center will promptly inform the Assistant Engineer concerned, who along with his team, will undertake restoration work efficiently, thus saving time and ensuring improved services for consumers.

The substations are also equipped with CCTV surveillance for additional oversight, and division officers will continuously monitor operations. He highlighted that by optimizing the deployment of staff, overall service quality will improve.

Reddy expressed the TGNPDCL was committed to embracing technology to provide consumers with more reliable and uninterrupted power supply services.
