Increase Vigilance At Petrol Pumps In Telangana, Says Uttam

Hyderabad: Civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials of the legal metrology department to intensify inspections across commercial establishments, especially at petrol stations, and verify weighing machines to safeguard consumers from fraudulent practices. He emphasised the importance of consumer protection and strict enforcement of regulations.

During a review of the department conducted at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy made it clear that any violation of consumer rights under the guise of the ease of doing business Act would be met with stringent action. "No one should be left out. Inspections should be intensified and actions should be strict if any violations are caught," he said.

The minister stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the department's role in safeguarding consumer interests. He also called for district-wise reviews to ensure that the enforcement measures are uniformly applied across the state.

Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted the need to fill the existing vacancies in the department to enhance its operational efficiency. He assured the officials that steps would be taken to promptly resolve the departmental issues. Principal secretary of civil supplies and legal metrology department D.S. Chauhan, assistant secretary Priyanka, assistant controller Rajeshwar and assistant commissioners from across the state participated in the event.
