WARANGAL: The state government on Saturday announced the allocation of Indiramma houses to farmers who had given their land for the establishment of the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park at Chintalapally in Shayampet mandal, Parkal constituency, Warangal district.

The farmers had appealed to local Congress MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy for justice, stating they were left destitute after giving up their valuable agricultural lands for the textile park, trusting the BRS government to compensate them.

MLA Reddy, along with the district collector, brought the matter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s attention during his visit to the textile park four months ago, urging him to treat it as a special case. Subsequently, the collector submitted a proposal to the Telangana Housing Corporation Limited (TGHCL) emphasising the need for rehabilitation measures.

The state government responded by issuing G.O. No. 40, sanctioning the construction of 863 houses for the affected farmers under the State Reserve Quota (SRQ) Indiramma Houses scheme. Each unit will be built with a grant of ₹5 lakh.

The BRS government had announced plans for the mega textile park in 2016 and acquired 1,357 acres of land in a phased manner from farmers in Shayampet and Sangem mandals. On October 22, 2017, then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the project.

At the time, former minister K.T. Rama Rao assured farmers of employment opportunities in the park and promised double-bedroom houses with 100 square yards of land for each farmer who lost their land. However, these promises were not fulfilled.
