Inter-State offender held for stealing bride’s gold ornaments in Nanded express

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested an inter-State property offender for stealing gold ornaments of a bride in Nanded express at Secunderabad railway station.

Gold ornaments worth Rs.21.60 lakh were seized from the possession of the arrested person identified as Sultan, 44, an agriculture labourer and native of Hansa Patti of Dhamatan Sahib Chowki, in Haryana. His associate Joginder, 35, a labourer and native of Dhamatan Sahib Chowki in Jind district, Haryana, is absconding.

In his complaint, N.V Ravi Shankar, a private employee and resident of Sri Sainagar Colony in Nagole said that after his son’s marriage at Visakhapatnam on February 28, he and his family members were returning to Secunderabad in Nanded express.

After boarding the AC coach, they kept their luggage under their berths including his daughter-in-law’s gold ornaments bag and slept in the night. The next morning, they woke up when the train was reaching Secunderabad Railway Station.

Shankar noticed that his daughter-in-law's bag containing gold ornaments was found missing. Immediately, they searched for the bag in the entire coach but in vain. Based on a complaint, the police booked a case. Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Sultan and seized 30 tulas gold ornaments worth Rs.21.60 lakh.
