Hyderabad: An infant was kidnapped by unknown persons from the inpatient block of the Niloufer hospital on Saturday.

According to Nampally police, the one-month-old baby boy’s parents - Mohammed Gaffar and Haseena Begum - hailing from Zaheerabad, admitted child Babu for jaundice treatment. After doctors informed them that the boy’s health condition became normal and was discharged, Gaffar and Haseena were busy at the reception centre inquiring about their son’s discharge summary when the two women and their accomplice, who were already waiting for the right moment, wrapped the toddler in a bed sheet and fled.

After the couple returned to the ward, the boy was found missing. The couple inquired with other patients and the hospital management but they could not trace him. They then lodged a complaint with Nampally police.

The couple came to Niloufer as Haseena gave birth to the boy in the same hospital a month ago. “We formed seven special teams to identify a private vehicle in which five persons including three women and two men fled with the child,” a senior police official said, adding that the kidnappers might be habitual offenders involved in human trafficking.

The police also flashed a wireless message across three Commissionerates requesting to trace the registration number of the vehicle used by the kidnappers.
