Karimnagar: Burglars broke into a house from the backyard, attacked a couple and looted gold and silver ornaments and cash before escaping, at the Beerpur mandal headquarters in Jagtial district.

Police identified the victims as Kasam Eswaraiah, who ran a general store from his residence, and his second wife, Bhagya Lakshmi. Eswaraiah's two children from his first marriage reside in Hyderabad.

In the early hours, as Eswaraiah stepped out to attend to personal needs, four unidentified masked individuals entered through the backyard. They assaulted Eswaraiah, tied him up with ropes, and dragged him into the house from the bathroom.

The assailants threatened to kill Eswaraiah and Bhagya Lakshmi before stealing 10 tolas of gold and 10 tolas of silver ornaments, along with Rs 10,000 in cash. Before escaping, they warned the couple not to inform the police, claiming they intended to distribute the looted items to the poor.

Eswaraiah lodged a complaint with the police, who have registered the case and initiated an investigation.
