Jodeghat: A 22-km journey through dense forests and Adivasi hamlets from the main road leads to the historic village of Jodeghat, nestled amid the valleys and hills of Kerameri Mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. With its chilled weather, flowing streams, and rivulets, Jodeghat offers a perfect getaway for urban dwellers seeking peace and natural beauty.

In winter, temperatures in the surrounding areas, including Tiryani and Sirpur (U) mandals, can drop as low as 3°C. Some farmers have even begun cultivating apples, taking advantage of the cool climate. On December 20, 2021, Ginnedhari village in Tiryani mandal recorded a low of 3.5°C, with Adivasis warming themselves by bonfires.
Jodeghat remains relatively untouched by modern influences, preserving its historical and cultural heritage. Adivasis here cultivate crops such as red gram, maize, jowar, and cotton on the hillsides. The tribal museum, named after the legendary Komaram Bheem, and his towering statue are key attractions. The museum offers a glimpse into Adivasi life, culture, and traditions, showcasing unique silver ornaments, including hand rings adorned with old coins that evoke nostalgia.
Visitors can immerse themselves in Jodeghat’s natural beauty and historical significance. The area showcases the struggles of Adivasis, including the hillock where Komaram Bheem resisted the Nizam forces in the 1940s. A statue depicting Komaram Bheem in a strategic discussion with his team adds to the experience. Tourists can explore the site during the day, as there are currently no facilities for overnight stays.
To enhance tourism, the government has allocated Rs 6 crore for building cottages and infrastructure. For now, visitors can stay at Asifabad district headquarters, about 30 km from Jodeghat. A lake-view guest house with boating facilities on the banks of Komaram Bheem reservoir also attracts nature lovers with its serene setting.
How to reach Jodeghat: Adilabad, located 300 km from Hyderabad, serves as a key transit point. From Adilabad, Jodeghat is another 120 km by road. Comfortable accommodations are available in Adilabad and Nirmal district headquarters. Trains from Secunderabad connect to Adilabad, and routes via Jannaram and Utnoor provide additional access to Jodeghat. Visitors can also travel via Mancherial to reach Asifabad and proceed to Jodeghat.
Local insights and suggestions: Ada Dunderao, curator of the Komaram Bheem Memorial and Tribal Museum, encourages tourists to visit Jodeghat for its scenic beauty and to learn about Adivasi history and culture. He recommends TSRTC operate a weekly special bus service from Hyderabad to accommodate increasing interest in exploring tribal regions. He also suggests that tourists use personal vehicles to visit nearby attractions like Nagoba temple and Kawal Tiger Reserve.
Currently, the museum can accommodate up to 30 people, providing a picnic-like experience with facilities for cooking, while ensuring minimal disturbance to the local community. Pendore Rajeshwar, the village head of Jodeghat, assures visitors of the community's warm support within their means.
