Kadam Project Nears Full Capacity After Heavy Rains

Hyderabad: The Kadam project in Nirmal district has 6.32 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet of water as against its gross capacity of 7.6 TMC due to heavy rains in the upper regions of Nirmal and Adilabad districts in the last two days.

The water level in the Sriramsagar project stood at 1,086 feet — just five feet shy of reaching the full reservoir level of 1,091 feet. Due to heavy rain in the lower streams of the Godavari basin, the river at Bhadrachalam town is getting 3,41,689 cusecs of water.

However, the Singur and Nizam Sagar projects are not yet filled to the brim and stood at 17 TMC and 5 TMC respectively as against the gross capacity of 29 TMC and 18 TMC respectively.

In the Krishna basin, the Nagarjunasagar dam is getting 4,09,344 cusecs of water every day. As the authorities are releasing 5,73,566 cusecs of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar dam, a flood situation is being created in the downstream areas as it coupled with heavy rains.

The Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams are filled up to the full reservoir level at 884 ft and 588 ft respectively against the full reservoir level of 885 and 590 ft respectively. The Srisailam reservoir holds 213 TMC of water against its capacity of 215 TMC and the Nagarjuna Sagar has 306 TMC as against its full capacity of 312 TMC.
