Kavach 4.0 system deployed on 63 km
Hyderabad:Kavach 4.0, the latest version of the indigenously developed automatic train protect system, has been commissioned over 63 route-km on the Sanatnagar-Vikarabad section, according to a statement. The Indian Railways has approved the installation of Kavach 4.0 in 10,000 locomotives nationwide.
This upgraded version marks a major milestone, enhancing safety and enabling rapid deployment across the vast railway network in the coming years, South Central Railway (SCR) said in a statement. The Kavach system was developed by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in collaboration with the industry.
Currently, Kavach is operational on 1,465 route-km and 144 locomotives in the SCR. It said Kavach version 3.2 has been deployed over 959 route-km on the Nagarsol-Mudkhed-Dharmabad-Nizamabad-Secunderabad-Kurnool City- Dhone-Guntakal section, 90 route-km on the Vikarabad-Bidar section and 112 route-km in the Vikarabad-Wadi section.
The key features of the Kavach system are automatic braking (if the locomotive pilot fails to respond); drivers cab display showing line and side signals; collision avoidance by direct communication between locomotives; auto whistling at level-crossing gates and continuous updates for real time movement authority updates.
