Khammam: Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy on Monday said that his predecessor and BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, who has remained in his farmhouse while people facing hardship due to heavy rains, was not fit to be Leader of the Opposition (LoP).

Speaking after holding a review meeting with officials in the district collectorate, Revanth Reddy said, “we should shed political differences when people are struck in dangerous situations. It is not the time to derive political mileage.”

He pointed out that Chandrashekar Rao as the Leader of Opposition should visit flood-affected areas and brought issues to the notice of the state government. He pointed out that former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had visited flood-affected areas in AP.

Stating that BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao communicated only through X, he alleged that BRS leader, who was in the US, was levelling baseless allegations against three ministers from Khammam district — Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy —who were supervising rescue operations round-the-clock. Rama Rao’s criticism was unbecoming, he said.

Revanth Reddy said that the ruling party and the main Opposition party should together bring pressure on the Centre to release funds during calamities but BRS leaders did niot have such an attitude.

The Chief Minister said that the damage in Khammam was more than the damage in NTR Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, the Chief Minister examined the breach to the canal at Palair reservoir and damage caused to the mini hydel project at Kusumanchi. He also examined submerged houses in Rajiv Swagruha Colony, Bakkalagadda and Pedda thanda. He also interacted with the people of these flood affected areas.

Bhatti, ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Srinivas Reddy, Nageswara Rao and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy were present.
